Honeycomb seals are uesed for tip sealing of LP moving blades.Honeycomb seals, derived from 'state of the art' aero engine technology, are an innovative method of reduceing moving blade tip leakage losses without prejudicing the reliability or operational of the unit. This type of sealing is the modern standard desgn for LP blade sealing.
Clearances of approximately one half of those used on fixed fin-type cylinder seals are possible. The small clearance is maintained so that during strat-up and normal operation, when rub incrusions may occur these can be accommodated by the 'rub-tolerant' honeycomb which allow the blades to form their own clearance.
Reducing the blade tip gap, improving effectiveness
Improving system stablity
Protecting the blades from water erosion
Shaft end packing honeycomb seals
For interstage shaft packing and shaft end seal
Increasing efficiency compared to conventional labyrinth
Easy to upgrade the old steam turbine units
